I’ll fight back
How am I doing? I’m doing fine, man. Just regrouping. Obviously, this wasn’t the start I wanted to get off to, but I’ll go back and fight and be back out there trying my best. Nobody said it would be easy, you know what I mean?
one is the hardest one sometimes. I’ve been working really hard on my swing,
man. It’s coming. It’s getting there.
Having those two days off in a row this week, I can’t say if it was good for me because I haven’t had two days off in a row in a long time. I don’t like to be off, but it’s going to depend on me.
Getting pinch-hit for on Tuesday was a tough thing, I’m not going to lie to you. Like I say, I guess I have a lot of things to prove here, and that’s going to be it for now.
Tito and I have always had a great relationship. I went in and talked to him the next day. We were just talking about a few things that we’ll keep inside. It was basically about a few things we wanted to clear up.
I just need to start hitting so it doesn’t happen again. Like I said to some other people today, it was maybe my first embarrassing moment wearing this uniform. We were looking for a win at the time. I wasn’t swinging the bat very good.
The manager sometimes has to make a decision. It’s hard for Tito, just like it’s hard for me. It’s part of the game, and he was basically telling me, “We want you to get ready, we need you to get ready because we need you.” I have to put myself together. This isn’t where I like to be. I know that when I get there, everything is going to go back to normal. Just watch.
Sometimes what people say gets old. They ask you if you can still do it. How much longer are you going to ask that question? That’s not what it is. It’s just a matter of not doing things right at the plate and then things get away from you.

I guarantee, if I know that you’re going to throw me a 99-mph fastball, I’m going to hit it. I guarantee you that. It’s not like I can’t do it anymore. It’s all about rhythm. Hitting is all about rhythm. If you don’t have rhythm, you’re not going to make it. Especially a guy like me. I don’t get away with bad swings. It’s as simple as that.
I’m just going through some mechanical things. I’ll be alright. I had the bad start last year and bounced back. It wasn’t like I was looking forward to another tough start, but I’ve bounced back before.
I don’t know how to explain it because I was feeling great about myself when we left camp. I think all the negativity after two games made me mad and maybe made me try to do too much. I’ll tell you one thing though, I’ve already put that on the side. I’m just going to go back and act normal and whatever happens will happen.
As a team, we also didn’t start out how we wanted to. As you can see, it’s not just one guy. It’s pretty much everyone struggling. But we know how to regroup. We know how to put it back together and make things happen. Like Manny said when we were down 3-1 in the ’07 ALCS, it’s not the end of the world. You know what I’m saying? You’ve just got to bounce back and do better, regardless.
David, I and a majority of Red Sox Nation are behind you 100%. You have been as responsible as anyone on the team over the last eight seasons for the success the team has enjoyed. It has been a thrill to watch your career. In all the years I have been a fan I can’t remember one player who never experienced periods where they struggled. I have no doubt that you will overcome and have another productive season for the Red Sox. You are in my prayers. Thank you for being Big Papi.
Greetings David Edgar Martinez is from Santo Domingo, you’re giving signs that these improve, just focus 100% on every appearance that you are to the plate, I have been very desperate. Focus only on the pitcher to whom you are dealing. Check the videos of when you were beat well and compare them. The only thing I see different about you is the desire to produce what makes you do bad pitcheso swing, only to hit your launch Focus. Come on my brother that I have always believed in you since we played together in Haina.

As said in the first comment, I and many, many fans are behind you, believe in you, we know you are part of the heart of the team. When you struggle, the team struggles. You just need to find your joy again. You used to have a great big smile when you walked to the plate. You don’t do that any more. Find your smile and your rhythm will follow. We’re praying for you and cheering for you. Don’t worry about the media hounds…they are always looking to bring somebody down. We love you!
I never understood what all the negativity was about in the first place. If you say you can do it, come back, get your swing right, and get into a rhythm then I believe you 100%. If you say you can, you will. There should be no doubt about your word (especially after so few games). You’re the man after all.
Keep on keepin’ on, things will work out.
I don’t know if David is a writer, a bar/restaurant owner, a cheerleader, or a ballplayer. With so many activities, I guess that might explain why you don’t have time for extra batting practice? Not until you were benched. this is first time i’ve read this blog, and I prefer my ball players to play ball and leave the writing to writers and fans. Especially when you’re in a slump and not taking extra BP. doesn’t look good, man. play ball. You’re too heavy, too; don’t look like an athlete. Sorry, but winning ballgames comes first, talk comes way later, after the season. My 2 cents.
You talked about hitting being about rhythm. Listen to your favorite music and do some dancing! I know it sounds crazy but it might get you feeling good mentally. Just concentrate on what you can do each day to get you back to your zone, don’t let the noise from outside you get inside. Yes, go back to acting normal, you know what they say, “Fake it till you make it.”
David if you ever get a chance to read this as a fan of red sox i have your support, don’t mind the haters around here. there just jelous and don’t understand how hard it is to hit and so much more pressure to please everyone.
you just don’t let it get into your head papi i am supportin you know matter what. it was like this for jd drew first year with red sox people didn’t believe he could till he hit that grand slam home run.
now everyone loves him. I also had confidence and what team tito puts out no matter who.
David, all of us in Red Sox Nation have your back. We know you can bounce back and regain the power you had a few years ago, be a middle of the order threat again. We believe in you.
Papi, we love you. Hang in there and keep at it. Red Sox Nation is cheering for you., DON’T listen to the negativity. There are always naysayers. I get on the comment boards during the games, and there are “fans” who’ll start calling for a player to be benched after the first strikeout, the first error, the first wild pitch, the first walk, etc. etc. etc. They aren’t the TRUE fans. Just keep believing in yourself and working.
Dave, Im not a Redsox fan by any means. But I love the game. I go to as many games as possible, and when I go I love to have fun. When players get frusterated, and get angry about the game it takes the fun out of things. I know you know what you need to do. Youre a professional. Im just the fan. But sometimes the fans see things that the pros dont. What Im seeing is you are trying to do too much. I know this is your job, and its what pays the bills, but you need to relax, and have fun, man. Take every at bat with a grain of salt. You’ll get there. Just smile like you always do, and have some fun playing this sport. Youre one of the fortunate ones that are born with this talent. I hope this bit of advice finds you well, Dave.
Much respect,
Wayne
Papi, you are lookin’ good! Just get some Stiicky Iicky in you and you will be player of the month for May 2010- you got 3 big ones already, my hombre, and it’s just Cinco De Mayo!!!

Hey, Big Bopper… count me in as one Red Sox fan who is not worried about whether or not you’ll be getting your 100 RBIs this year.
I remember Yastrzemski going into slumps… Frank Thomas of the White Sox, who was at one time considered to be the modern equivalent of Ted Williams (at least here in Chicago) had a three year slump that had the White Sox fans booing him every time he went up to the plate (which made me ill when I saw it on many occasions in person).
Big Papi, I know you’ll be fine. The Red Sox fans that didn’t learn that being patient with you would pay off last year will never understand baseball. What you have done for the Red Sox over your career will never be forgotten. If you retired today, your number would be retired with you. But that ain’t gonna happen, and you’re gonna be fine, and if things get tough for you we have Mike Lowell back there to spot you for a couple days/weeks while you get your mojo back.
My prediction is: You’ll end the season with 25 HRs – and who knows how many doubles – and 100 RBIs – at least! – and if that isn’t good enough for Red Sox Nation then they can all go to hell.
Love,
Houndcat
We’re rooting for you Papi!
What’s up with Newhalk from Franklin Pierce? What the hell are you talking about? Do you know what you are talking about? No one, I repeat no one works harder than David Ortiz! But only educated Red Sox fans would know this. You sound like Forest Gump, stupid is as stupid does…
Do you work at Franklin Pierce or go to school there? That explains it, it’s not the hardest school to get into!
I went to my first Sox game sixteen years before you were born. Over those years I have come to believe there’s a hard to define set of qualities that make some players “real” Red Sox, and you are definitely one of those players. The overwhelming majority of Sox fans are behind you and are confident that you have the ability to bounce back. When you step up to the plate, I hope that instead of feeling burdened by expectations, you feel uplifted and confident, knowing that you have the unconditional support of millions.
